Clinical Interests

Angela has a enthusiasm for all aspects of PerfusionScience. She has experience in a large array of adult and paediatric cardiac procedures including neonatal and complex congenital surgery, ECMO and transplantation. She is passionate about teaching having mentored many perfusion trainees and MSc students. Her interests include near-patient coagulation testing and is active in teaching and advising on analysis for guided transfusion practice, the subject of her MSc project. Angela also has worked within several units overseas training and developing paediatric perfusion processes in Egypt, Israel and Tanzania and is currently working in conjunction with a hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh committed to uplifting cardiac surgical services.

Professional Profile

After attaining a degree in Human Physiology, Angela started training at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London in 1998 performing adult and paediatric perfusion. Following qualification Angela transferred to Harefield Hospital to gain transplantation and VAD experience. Angela subsequently moved to London Bridge Hospital experiencing a very different healthcare perspective, a small, busy, private setting.

Keen to return to paediatric practice Angela moved toSouthampton General Hospital in 2007 and completed her MSc in Perfusion Science.At Southampton Angela became involved in the surgical blood management programme and presented extensively at perfusion, anaesthetic and surgical conferences on transfusion issues and mini-CPB. In 2012 Angela was elected to the SCPS Executive Committee working within and eventually becoming Chair of theM&S sub-committee organising 6 annual congresses. Angela also became Chair of the Safety Committee.

In 2015 Angela moved to Leeds Teaching NHS Trust where she continues her adult and paediatric practice. Angela has recently become aSociety examiner.
