Assistant Principal Clinical Perfusionist, University Hospitals of Leicester (East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre).

Role

Priya was elected to the Executive Committee of the Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists in 2022.

Clinical Interests

Priya is experienced in complex paediatric and congenital cardiac surgery but is particularly focussed in leading and developing the paediatric unit into Research and audit projects. Developing the ECMO transport service for paediatrics.  She has a keen interest in training, education and the development of dedicated training programs.  She has a strong interest in circuit design and latest developments in disposables.

Professional Profile

Priya Graduated from Leicester University with a BSc in Physiology in 1999. Her first role was based at the Royal Free Hospital as a medical Technical officer, responsible for radiation badge processing and reporting. She joined the Hammersmith Hospital, London as a trainee Perfusionist   gaining Accreditation in 2004. Priya has worked at a number of units across London, Oxford, Harefield and Coventry gaining experience in complex adult procedures, transplant and retrieval, platelet sequestration and gel.

She joined the University Hospitals of Leicester, based in Glenfield in 2007. During her time at the Glenfield Hospital, Leicester, she has gained experience in all aspects of Adult and Paediatric perfusion as well as ECMO, including transport. In 2021 the East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre was set up, this has enabled her to developed her leadership roles and has gained valuable insight into the challenges facing a new cardiac unit, and she has recently stepped up to the role of Assistant Principal Perfusionist.
