Jonathan is a consultant in cardiac anaesthesia and critical care in Bristol. He has a special interest in congenital cardiac disease, minimally invasive surgery and enhanced recovery programmes. Jonathan also undertakes anaesthesia for non-cardiac procedures, including major cancer surgery and obstetrics.
After undertaking undergraduate and foundation training in Newcastle, Jonathan trained in London, Bristol and Melbourne, before taking up a consultant post in Bristol. During this time he undertook training in all branches of anaesthesia and critical care, specialising in cardiac anaesthesia, including spending time working in paediatric cardiac anaesthesia and at a major transplant centre. Jonathan has also spent time working for an international retrieval company and undertaking anaesthesia in the developing world.
Alongside his clinical work Jonathan also has an active interest in research and has authored multiple peer reviewed papers and led several large multi-centre studies. He is actively engaged in education and training, having developed and taught on a number of training courses and served as both an ALS and APLS instructor. Jonathan is currently on the ACTACC national committee and research committee.
